Sandy
As soon as the sun crept above the horizon yesterday, I headed out to explore and discovered a metropolis that’s been smacked by Hurricane Sandy. The Upper East Side, where I live, looked largely unscathed. But every place else, I saw devastation. Throughout Central Park trees have been toppled. Surging water buckled piers on both the East and Hudson Rivers. And yes, I saw the crippled crane that dangles over Midtown.
At the height of the storm, periodically, I saw the sky light up. I thought it might be lightening. Yesterday, I discovered I had witnessed transformers blowing up in New Jersey.
Some people nor far from where I now write have lost everything. If you can help them, please do. Today, most New Yorkers just want to get back to work.
